Ash Wednesday is this week, 2/17, and although I am not Catholic, and in general the Prodestant church does not practice Lent, I do think it has great significance and meaning. The purpose of Lent is a time of sacrifice and reflection to prepare for the resurrection on Easter Sunday (40 days from Ash Wednesday). I love Easter. It’s my absolute favorite holiday. I adore Holy Week (the week leading up to Easter Sunday) and wish I lived in a Latin country that time of year. I think everyone should know about each day of Holy Week, why each day is special, why Jesus did what He did those days before His death. I love Easter. I love the crucifiction. I love the waiting for the resurrection. And of course, because it’s this reason by which I am saved, I love that Jesus rose from the dead, shattering the chains of sin that burden me!
I got distracted…so I love Easter, and this year, I am choosing to participate in Lent so that I can focus on the amazing-ness of the season, and sacrifice my time to my Lord. What am I giving up you ask? Facebook. lt;/p>
That’s right. Facebook. As a stay at home wife, I spend a lot of time on Facebook, and a lot of the time it’s because I feel that it’s my only connection to the outside world. I like to see the pictures, read the comments, play Bejeweled. But I spend far too much time on Facebook, and at times even find myself wanting to get home or get out of bed just to see if someone commented on something.
So for Lent, I am choosing to give up Facebook and spend my time reading, cleaning, working out, and mostly so that I can focus on the reasons why Jesus has me spending this time of my life at home, alone… and waiting. I have devised a daily schedule that will hopefully help me keep on task and also includes a daily workout and yoga before bed. Those two things I am hoping will give me engery, healthy and relaxation. I am also committing to spending an hour each day reading the Word of God and praying. (If you have any prayer requests send them my way!)
If you want to get a hold of me, don’t use Facebook! 🙂 Call me or email me at email@example.com – – – come work out with me, pray with me or invite me to run errands with you! I will need some encouragment and some connection with the outside world!
I will continue to blog throughout this 40 day journey (which will include our 1 year anniversary trip to Santa Barbara!). I will be trying out new recipes to keep me busy, working on scrapbooking and trying to do some cake and cupcake baking too!
Have a really blessed Easter Season everyone!!
